Boy killed in shark attack

This tragic story has been all over the news today (click here for the Sydney Morning Herald’s coverage) – 16 year old Peter Edmonds was attacked by a shark near Ballina this morning and sadly, despite the best efforts of his best friend, died on shore. The only reason why the teenagers were down on the beach was because of a teachers’ stopwork meeting that was held across NSW this morning.

Not to say that the Teachers’ Federation is indirectly responsible for this horrific accident (even though I am a sceptic of these stopwork meetings and the days on which they seem to be organised), but if it wasn’t on, odds are that this young man would still be alive tonight.
