A brief history of Microsoft Word

Thanks to the ImpressionSift@Work blog, here is a look back at how the popular word processing software has grown and changed into what it is now. Even open-source devotees of the OpenOffice.org and similar office apps will see how Microsoft’s layout has been imitated to form the basis of the programs that they use.

I remember back in the good old days of primary/early high school when I used Word 2.0 on our ancient (by today’s standards, of course) family Acer 486 PC to prepare projects and assignments. Nowadays it’s the 2007 variant that fulfils my word processing needs very capably.
