Bangladesh v South Africa – new record opening stand

Last week, cricketing minnows Bangladesh held a first innings lead against South Africa in the first of the 2 test series between these 2 nations. Today, it appears that order has been restored, and emphatically so.

Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie have set a world record 415 run opening stand in the 2nd Test at Chittagong, breaking the previous record set by Indian duo Pankaj Roy and Vinoo Mankad in 1956. It appears that the Proteas are set for a long stay at the crease with the score at 3/515 just after lunch on the 2nd day, so I wonder if sights are set on possibly reaching 1000 runs in the innings. A couple of quick wickets may possibly put paid to these aspirations. If so, regardless of the quality of the opponent, it would be a monumental feat never seen before in the history of Test cricket (the current record stands at 6/952d by Sri Lanka against India 11 years ago).
